The starting point

Established in 2021, Bière Froide Cold Beer Dépanneur opened as a beer store focused on local microbrewed beer and snack pairings, with an initial selection of 350 specialty beers. A positive community response led to the idea of adding a working taphouse, while retaining takeaway beer sales.

The client’s brief

Create a relaxed, casual space with plenty of seating and a working bar for cocktails, food preparation, and beer service. Keep all existing finishes intact and focus the renovation on layout and furniture.

The layout

The design addresses underused floor area and incorporates the existing custom service counter. Its original form is preserved as central seating benches, while the counter is deconstructed and reassembled in a straight configuration to create a functional service bar.

Furniture and atmosphere

Outdoor beer gardens inspire benches in Chinese fir and iron, with circular tables near the windows. Beer taps form a focal point on the facing wall. Condensed retail beer storage frees space for additional seating, and a neutral, organic palette keeps attention on the products.

From daytime store to evening bar

White surfaces draw natural light into the space. Dimmers, candles, and the setting sun soften the atmosphere into a cosy bar, bringing out the golden hues of the wood. The original portfolio includes both design renderings and photographs of the resulting space.
